HEALTH BENIFITS EXPLAINED
What are
polyunsaturated?
Polyunsaturated fats are classed as essential fatty acids as the body needs them to function but is unable to produce them. We have to rely on our diet to get these essential fats so it is important to eat the right food. Polyunsaturated fats include omega-3 and omega-6 fattys acids which are important for cell production, preventing heart disease and stroke and increasing good cholesterol. Sunflower seeds are rich in omega-3 and omega-6 make up 65% of all sunflower oils.
What are good and
bad cholesterols?
Cholesterol is a type of fat that your body needs to make hormones, vitamins and other essential substances. Cholesterols are split in to 2 groups; LDL and HDL. HDL (High-Density Lipoprotein) cholesterol is the GOOD cholesterol as it lowers bad LDL. It does this by absorbing harmful LDL and removing it from the blood stream. Sunflower oil helps to increase your HDL levels. LDL (Low-Density Lipoprotein) cholesterol is the BAD cholesterol that builds up in the walls of our arteries. This makes them hard and narrow which can cause them to clog up and increase your risk of heart attacks and strokes.
What are
antioxidants?
Antioxidants are powerful molecules that protect you from damage causing free radicals. Free radicals are constantly being formed in your body and if levels become too high they can lead to diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Even though your body is able to produce antioxidants, it is important to include them within your diet.
Why is our sunflower oil
Trans Fat Free?
Trans-fatty acids are created as a cheaper alternative to other oils and have a longer shelf life so are added to processed foods to stop them spoiling. You can identify trans fats as they are solid at room temperature and may also be labelled as hydrogenated vegetable oil. Trans fats are seen as the most harmful as they decrease the good HDL cholesterol and can increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke. Our sunflower oil is trans fat free
Why do we add
Beta Carotene?
Beta Carotene is a very powerful antioxidant which helps to eliminate damage causing free radicals. Alongside this Beta Carotene is the building block needed to produce vitamin A which is essential for supporting organ health to maintaining good vison.
Why do we add
vitamin D?
Vitamin D is needed for the development and maintenance of many essential body functions. However the body can only produce it when exposed to sunlight which results in many people suffering from low levels of this essential vitamin during winter months. As a result it is essential to supplement your daily diet with vitamin D.
